Maritime Cluster Networking in Korea (Mac-Net Korea) begins

The Korean Register of Shipping (KR) made much efforts to foster cooperation and networking across the maritime industries for sustainable development and advancement. KR and 23 organizations in maritime industries entered into an agreement of Maritime Cluster Networking (Mac-Net) on November 24 at APEC House, Busan, Korea.

Mac-Net consists of 24 organizations & institutions such as Busan Metropolitan City, Korean Register (KR), Korea Shipowners' Association (KSA), Korea Offshore & Shipbuilding Association (KOSHIPA), Korea ShipManagers' Association (KOSMA), Korea Marine Equipment Association (KOMEA), Busan Marine Equipment Association (BMEA), Offshore Plant Engineering Association (KOSEC), Korea Maritime Institute (KMI), Korea Trade Insurance Corporation (K-sure), The Korea Development Bank, Export-Import Bank of Korea (Korea Eximbank), Korea Marime & Ocean University (KMOU), Pusan National University (PNU), The Korea Research Institute of Ships & Ocean Engineering (KRISO), and etc. KR will take charge of a secretariat as a management organization and Busan Metropolitan City will take on supporting organizations.

Mac-Net suggests 'A power maritime nation together as one' as its mission and puts its vision "Connecting all to one, Sailing to the World" with five values, which are collaboration, Initiative, Challenge, Integrity, Co-Prosperity. Mac-Net is expected to contribute to balanced development of whole maritime industries through information exchange among shipping, shipbuilding, port, finance, ship management ship technology industries. B.S. Park, Chairman of the Korean Register (KR) laid much insistence upon the importance of Mac-Net, saying, "It is hard that one area is progressed independently since maritime industries fundamentally have interrelationship. Maritime industries need integrated development model through advances of converging technologies, as well as fostering international offshore environment regulation, and globalization of industry economy."
