To Strengthen Traffic Safety by Installing CCTV with Innovative Technology Through Public & Private Cooperation
Busan Port Authority(BPA, President WOO Ye-jong) stated that low cost and high quality "Video image vehicle detector type CCTVs" will be installed in order to prevent traffic accidents on the road adjacent to Busan New Port.
30,000 or more vehicles a day are currently using the road to Busan New Port, which opened in 2006, and the number of vehicles is growing. 8 deaths, 54 major accidents, and 25 other accidents have occurred on the road near the port over the past three years.
Meanwhile, BPA has carried out various campaigns to prevent accidents and to set up a traffic safety network in the blind spot by signing the "Agreement to Establish Advanced Traffic Safety of Busan New Port" with related institutions in November 2015.
In addition, BPA, related institutions, and terminal officials came to the conclusion to install "Traffic CCTV" in order to eliminate traffic accidents in July.
Traditional CCTVs that detected high speeds and traffic light violations cost 60 million won but they have limited abilities to recognize car license plates at night. In this regard, BPA had difficulties in securing high quality CCTVs.
To this end, BPA decided to adopt "Video image vehicle detector type CCTVs" through comprehensive discussion in order to secure low cost & high quality CCTVs. These CCTVs can capture clear images of traffic signal violations, can film day and night, and under bad weather conditions. In addition, they are able to identify license plate numbers of vehicles speeding over 160KM.
Moreover, newly installed CCTVs are equipped with a 24hr recording function to identify vehicles involved in major crimes and to secure evidence for traffic accidents. Furthermore, the price of new CCTVs are 15 million won, only one-fourth the price of the traditional ones.
