The Association of Asian Classification Societies (ACS) held its 23rd Annual Executive Committee meeting in Bali, Indonesia on 29~30 October 2015. At that meeting, the ACS members unanimously elected Dr. Park, Chairman and CEO of KR, to be the Chairman of ACS for 2016.
In his acceptance speech, Dr. Park praised ACS’s solid organization and management which has been a focus since the society’s launch in 2010. Looking ahead to 2016, the society will strengthen its technological expertise and will increase the exchange and cooperation between member societies.
Dr. Park suggested building a collaborative relationship with the Asian Shipowners’ Forum (ASF) and the Asia Shipbuilding Experts’ Forum (ASEF). The ACS Board of directors agreed that a meeting between the secretary generals of each organization should take place promptly to support the establishment of new beneficial working relationships.
He further stressed that ACS will work to support more technical development throughout the ACS organization and will look to develop closer working relationships with other Asian maritime organizations. ACS was officially launched in 2010 to proactively represent Asian voices in the international maritime industry, building on a basis of understanding and cooperation amongst classification societies in the Asian region.
Currently, ACS’s member societies are Korean Register (KR), China Classification Society (CCS), Class NK (NK), Indian Register of Shipping (IRS), Biro Klasifikasi Indonesia (BKI) and Vietnam Register (VR). KR previously held the ACS Chairmanship in 2011. The next General Assembly of ACS will be held in Busan, Korea, in November 2016.
