KR is a world-leading, technical advisor to the maritime industry, safeguarding life, property and the environment through the pursuit of excellence in its rules and standards. Founded in 1960 and becoming a member of international association of Classification societies (IACS) in 1988, Kr ensures its customers receive immediate and high quality service through a comprehensive network of about 60 offices with its headquarters in Busan.

In addition to undergoing strict internal audits, KR has been audited by about 70 flag administrations that have given KR authorization to conduct statutory surveys on their behalf. KR had been certified by IACS based on its Quality System Certification Scheme (QSCS) including ISO 9001 up to 2009, and thereafter as recommended by the EU Commission, the society has been audited by SGS, an independent external Accredited Certified Body (ACB), each year for QSCS certification. Conforming to strict audits performed by flag administrations and an independent ACB ensures that KR maintains transparent quality systems for management and technology.
